Sometimes legends go almost unknown...
A well-kept secret for many years Mickey Champion was the subject of a 2001 documentary entitled "Champion Blues" - http://www.championblues.com/
Performing live shows up to five days a week in both upscale hotels and in the authentic Blues haunts of South Central, Mickey continues to develop as an artist and performer.
The late Charles Brown considered Mickey Champion one of the greatest powerhouse blues singers of all time. Not long before his death he said, "Ain't no one left who can sing like that when Mickey's gone".
Over the years she has performed with greats such as Billie Holiday, T. Bone Walker, and Dinah Washington…doubled for Esther Phillips and shared the friendships of singers Barbara Morrison, Linda Hopkins and Ray Brewster; and trumpet player Clora Bryant.
In an era where sometimes the heart and soul of good music seems to exist only in the past, Mickey Champion reminds us that inspiration never dies and that much of the beauty and tradition of yesterday is still here for us to enjoy. Take the time to listen and enjoy something too unique to find just anywhere.
