Frank, Amy Winehouse's 2003 debut, was followed by a 3 year bout with writer's block. She speaks often of the 50’s & 60’s girl groups and classic Soul she listened to during that time that ultimately influenced her latest album Back To Black (she tips her hat to both Ray Charles and Donny Hathaway in her hit single Rehab), which was released in the states in March.

Since her high-voltage personality and reputation for heavy drinking and smoking often landed her in the pages of the tabloid press I had for months dismissed her as another over publicized attention seeker. But when I finally had a listen I was hooked. The 23-year-old British singer has an extraordinary voice, like Billie Holiday channeling the Shangri-Las.
