Vinyl Section coming to Best Buy?

VINYL SECTION AT BIG BOX RETAILER?! Best Buy is considering devoting eight square feet of merchandising space to vinyl after testing the idea in 100 of its stores around the country, the N.Y. Post’s Peter Lauria reports. That’s enough space to accommodate just under 200 albums, which doesn’t seem like much until you consider that a typical Best Buy store devotes just 16 to 20 square feet to music. After increasing 15% in 2007, vinyl sales jumped 89% last year to 1.9 million albums, and this year is shaping up even better, with 670k albums sold by mid-April. While vinyl's growth obviously can't make up for the CD’s decline, it does show consumers haven't abandoned the physical format. And the fact that a retailer of Best Buy's size is willing to expand vinyl offerings is an incremental positive for a beleaguered industry.

Kid Cudi

The first new rap artist i've been excited about in quite sometime. The Cleveland born rapper with a sing-song flow got a major boost at South by Southwest, where he showed up higher-billed acts like Chromeo and Kid Sister.

Video for his first single Day 'n' Nite:

Playing For Change

From the award-winning documentary, "Playing For Change: Peace Through Music", comes the first of many "songs around the world" being released independently. Featured is a cover of the Ben E. King classic by musicians around the world adding their part to the song as it traveled the globe.

Watch Coachella LIVE on your computer

From the Coachella Music Festival, Springboard is producing the webcast through the weekend. Right there, live on your desktop. Click the link below to watch Coachella live:

http://music.att.net/

For you techies, there is one other reason to check this webcast out.
It is being delivered with Adaptive Streaming. The streaming video is MUCH better. You know how on most streams Full Screen usually sucks. Not with this, Full Screen looks great.

When you go to the site, you will just add a little applet that takes about
10 seconds. Then the stream automatically diagnoses your download speed, and the speed of your computer's processor and gives you the best picture you can handle.

Tune in for the live webcasts featuring performances from The Killers, M.I.A, White Lies, Paul McCartney, Morrissey, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Glasvegas, The Cure, Peter Bjorn and John, Public Enemy, Okkervil River and many others.

Raphael Saadiq - The Way I See It

I'm crazy for Raphael Saadiq's latest record, The Way I See It. A beautifully crafted throwback to 50/60's R&B/Motown.

My current favorite track is "Big Easy"

Here are some videos from the album:
